This is not the first time that security flaws were discovered in the Samsung camera device. The product was originally developed by Samsung Techwin but was later sold to the South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group. The device is used in real-time monitoring of babies, pets, or old people, and is also used to improve home and business security.

You can use the Pro version over WiFi too, but you also have the option to connect it to the 5 Ghz band, in addition to the 2.4 Ghz band. It has an RJ-45 Ethernet port, which gives you the ability connect the camera to a wired network. The biggest difference is the Pro model has extra network features not included in the Plus. Here, we’re going to compare the differences between the SmartCam HD Plus (SNH-V6414BN) and the SmartCam HD Pro (SNH-P6410BN). Oftentimes, it’s best to discuss each camera in terms of model numbers for accuracy, just make sure you have the correct model number! To make matters more confusing, many cameras have similar model numbers but differ significantly in what they have to offer. Within the SmartCam brand, there are HD Pro, HD Plus, HD, and Wisenet models. They have a broad range of products that are sold under the SmartCam name. Samsung has a terribly confusing naming convention for their entire line of home security cameras. The cameras will still function fine through Blue Iris or the SmartCam app.

Update (10/10/18): As reported by members of the SmartThings Users Group on Facebook, Samsung has removed the ability to add SmartCams to SmartThings. You can also deactivate the microSD card altogether. You can choose from various options, such as recording resolution (720p or 1080p), whether or not you want to continuously record, and overwriting the microSD card when it’s full.

The SmartCam app gives you flexibility as to how to use the microSD card. The Samsung SmartCam HD Plus (SNH-V6414BN) ships with a 16GB microSD card. Unlike the Nest Dropcam, Samsung SmartCams don’t rely on just cloud storage. You can choose which type of detection will start a recording, or you can use both! You can also select whether or not you want to receive instant notifications from the SmartCam app! The camera supports motion and audio event-based recording. The audio capabilities also make this an ideal camera to keep an eye on and communicate with pets when you’re away from home. The Samsung SmartCam HD Plus features two-way audio, which makes it useful as a baby monitor or to monitor play areas for older children. It’s WiFi only, and it’s only compatible with the 2.4 Ghz band. There isn’t an RJ-45 Ethernet port on the camera.

The 2 megapixel imaging processor results in a full HD experience, so it’s easy to make out details in a recording. The true day/night IR cut filter gives you 32 feet of night vision and it can automatically switch to a black & white picture for crisp images in total darkness.
